MERCHANT OF VENICE Portia of Belmont was an heiress and her father prepared a will for her marriage to ensure that only the best man will marry Portia. Prince of Morocco came to marry her. He had an egoistic nature because he had won many battles. He chose the golden casket which contained a skull and a note that said all that glitters is not gold. Then came Prince of Arragon. He was clever but was not wise enough to choose Portia. He chose silver casket which contained a portrait of blinking idiot and a note that says fools chase shadows. After Prince of Arragon came a very wise merchant of Venice named Bassino, who presented himself as sophisticated and cultured man. Portia fell in love when she first met Bassino. She also wanted to help him to choose the correct casket but she was bounded by her father’s will. He chose leaden casket which contained the portrait of beautiful,Portia.
