Mohan along with his mother, Sarita, went to his grandmother, Kaveri’s, house in village Laldwani. Mohan was very close to his grandmother. He was seven years old. There was a fair in the village. Mohan and Kaveri decided to visit the fair. Mohan was full of enthusiasm and zeal as he was going to attend a local fair for the first time.
The fair was
organized in village only in a ground which was very small. In a corner, there
was an old man selling knives and the other kitchen items. Near him was a woman
selling pots of different sizes in vivid colours and designs. There was also a
big stall of provision in which sacks of rice and wheat were kept for sale.
Cans of pulses were also being sold.
At the
entrance of the ground, there was a man selling colourful toys, balloons and
balls. For every child it was the centre of attraction. Kaveri bargained and
fixed the price of the ball at fifteen rupee. Mohan was quite happy and started
playing with the ball there itself.
Kaveri then
moved to a stall of ladies item. There was a well civilized man with long black
hairs and had a mustache. He had many items like bangles, saree, mirrors, etc.
Kaveri was interested in sarees. She bought a saree of parrot green colour with
yellow flowers for her daughter.
She bought two
chocolates for Mohan from a hawker and left for home. This experience for Mohan
was mind-blowing.
